Chicago Auto Show 2010

CHICAGO, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- With just a week to go before the nation’s largest automotive exhibition opens to the public, Nissan and Infiniti officially opted to display their popular brands at the Feb. 12-21 Chicago Auto Show.

The news was met warmly by show organizers. John Phelan, 2010 Chicago Auto Show chairman said, “We’re very pleased Nissan and Infiniti have made the decision to showcase their vehicles at the nation’s most influential consumer auto event.”

“The incredible labor force at McCormick Place will be able to help coordinate and execute the additional construction, and will have it standing tall in time for our two-day media preview and 10-day public run,” added Phelan. “Both prospective and existing Nissan and Infiniti customers will be able to view the latest rolling style and technology that has made them significant forces in the automotive world.”

According industry data, Nissan registered almost 9 percent of area light car and truck sales in 2009, and local dealer projections for 2010 are optimistic.

“All of our dealers are thrilled to be participating in this remarkable show,” said Saul Rosen, owner, Rosen Nissan of Gurnee, Ill., and a former chairman of the Nissan National Dealer Advisory Board. “We’re pleased that the decision was made. This show sells cars -- and that’s something everyone wants to see.”

Show-goers will have the opportunity to see the full range of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, as well as some all new models from the two brands.  Nissan will showcase the new 2011 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition for the first time anywhere; and Infiniti’s display includes the all-new 2011 M, which goes on sale this spring.

Tupelo Automobile Museum to host National Auto conference

TUPELO, Miss. -(WTVA)-Classic car enthusiasts will congregate upon the city of Tupelo in March.

The Tupelo Automobile Museum will host a joint consultation of the National Association of Automobile Museums and the Society of Automotive Historians.
Museum Marketing Director Cindy Hale says they hunted to show off their group of more than one hundred cars that date back to the 1880's.

"These are people who are curators of these museums and also the historians are regularly professors at universities so, they are true historians of this type so, we're really excited to have these people here for this conference," Hale said.

Hale says they expect one hundred fifty people from all over the world to attend the joint conference.

New sedan S350 From Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz today launched S350 in India in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant is priced at Rs. 80.5 lakhs while the diesel variant is priced at Rs. 82 lakh.

Mercedes India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur said, “Globally the S-class is an enormous market leader in its segment as well as in India…The new S-Class will carry forward the guidance in the segment”.

Mercedes-Benz saw a decline of sales in India due to dealers problem as reported by RushLane earlier.

2011 Audi A8 available with EDGE, Google Earth

We're guessing it won't be the tipping point that finally convinces you to buy an Audi A8, but it looks like those in the market for the car will be able to add a nice little option to the 2011 model: a built-in nav system complete with Google Earth and a GPRS / EDGE modem. Yeah, so it's not 3G, but it is actually the first time that Google Earth has been made accessible in a manufacture vehicle, which certainly counts for something. In addition to serving up various Google-sourced points of interest, that modem will also let you download a range of other up-to-date information to the nav unit, although it's not clear exactly what that will entail. No word on how much it'll add to the cost of the A8, but it looks like it won't be available right when the car rolls out early next year -- Audi is only saying "mid 2010" at the moment.

As some commenter have helpfully noted, it seems that while the A8 won't initially roll out with 3G, it will be getting a UMTS modem in mid 2010, which should provide the bandwidth necessary for Google Earth and allow for simultaneous voice and data connections.

Audi e-tron Concept

Audi is showing an hardnosed purist dense sports car with all-electric drive at the first major auto show of 2010. The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is the name of this 3.93 meter (154.72 in) long and 1.78 meter (70.08 in) wide but just 1.22 meter (48.03 in) tall two-seater; just a few months after the debut of the Audi e-tron at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, this is now the second electric concept vehicle from the brand with the four rings.

Coupled with the Detroit showcar Audi e-tron’s low gross weight of around only 1,350 kilograms (2976.24 lb), high-torque power units pouring the rear wheels guarantee adequate road performance. Two electric motors with a combined output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 2,650 Nm (1954.54 lb-ft) accelerate the coupe with ASF-design aluminum body from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.9 seconds. The Audi e-tron accomplishes the sprint from 60 to 120 km/h  (37.28 - 74.56 mph) in a mere 5.1 seconds.
